Simultaneously, the call for recognition and wisdom in the sixth line encourages you to step out of isolation, showcase your talents, and inspire and guide others in your own journeys. How when we can realize our potential that’s waiting to be discovered within us, we can live life to the fullest. When we come to the 6/2 role model hermit profile in human design, we have to remember six lines.
Line 6: Role Model
However, the next phase of their life is where the Role Model-Hermit truly thrives. They retreat from the world and take the time to assimilate and reflect upon the knowledge and wisdom they have gained from their experiences. It is during this period of solitude that their hermit side flourishes, and they are able to uncover their innate talents and gifts. The first third of their life is filled with numerous experiments and experiences, as they seek to understand what works and what doesn't.

It entails recognizing your own worth and capabilities, and demonstrating to yourself that you are as valuable as you perceive yourself to be. Especially during the initial 30 years of your life, when the sixth line is still developing, vulnerability can prevail. It is through these experiences that you prove to yourself that you are ready to shine, assuming the role of profound role model for others.
Manifesting as a 6/2 Generator
You are creative, but you need isolation to bring that creativity out from within you. With line six, the first 30 years of your life are going to be full of trials and errors, and you will make many mistakes. Not all of them are going to be good, and there will be many lows and highs.
2 Manifesting Generator
One of the defining characteristics of the Role Model-Hermit is their ability to see the world from a bird's eye view. They have a knack for understanding the big picture and possess a wisdom that surpasses their years. This perspective allows them to navigate life with a sense of clarity and insight that others may struggle to attain. They retreat to their ‘roof’ to reflect upon their experiences and glean wisdom from them. This phase can sometimes be challenging as it requires them to be alone with their thoughts and insights. In relationships, the 6/2 Profile person can exhibit a mix of intimacy and detachment.
The Manifestor energy within a 6/2 profile provides a desire to initiate and instigate change, working independently to manifest your vision. You’re designed to act in bursts of energy, after which you’ll need time to recharge. Understanding these traits will help you navigate your life in a way that aligns with your true nature.
The reality is 6/2s will also often trigger other people simply by existing because the 6/2 role model hermit profile in human design is the highest, almost superhuman. The fifth line is the highest universalizing power of the human experience but the sixth line is like this superhuman experience. The 6/2 role model hermit profile in human design are people who go around sparking transformation in other people simply by existing. Ultimately the 6/2 role model hermit profile in human design is here to be self-sufficient, to be visionary. As they hone their process and start to maintain their objective perspective, if they don’t allow the fragility of the world to keep them down, they will really flourish and get their wings. It doesn’t always know what it’s actually good at, yet people are constantly projecting on it what it is good at and what it’s talents are.
The 6/2 Profile Line with different energy types
The key is a platform that allows them to impart wisdom, guide, and inspire. For a 6/2 Manifestor, informing is a key strategy to reduce resistance from others and to foster understanding and cooperation. As a Manifestor, you’re here to initiate action, but this can sometimes take others by surprise and create resistance.
Balancing Personal Growth and Partnership
This phase can be a great time to engage in self-study, develop new skills, or embark on a new career path that aligns with your internal growth. Your eventual role as a Role Model also implies that careers involving mentorship, teaching, or leadership could be highly suitable. However, remember that it’s essential to listen to your Sacral response when making career decisions. When it comes to career choices, a 6/2 Generator will thrive in environments that align with their natural energy flow and honor their need for solitude.
They usually set big goals, using their values and ideals as their compass to set their target for what they want to achieve. If profiles had a “not-self” theme, for a 6/2, it would be extreme pessimism and burnout. They tend to be super curious and love exploring new topics and learning new information.
They seek refuge in moments of stillness, delving into the depths of their innermost thoughts and emotions. It is important to mention that there is nothing you need to do with this information. If this information resonates with you, these aspects are things to recognize, accept and celebrate about yourself.
In the first 28 years or until Saturn returns the 6th line is introspective and experimental. Coupled with the the hermit of the 2nd line this can be quiet or reserved self experimenting individual. Though through their experimentation they may have burst of energetic expression or what might seem like explosions from their somewhat reserved personalities. The 2nd line hermit will keep pulling them into being alone, but the friends of the individual will call them out. Overall there is an intensity to the inward focus with both the 2nd and 3rd lines being inward.
They could be involved in designing interventions, understanding the broader societal patterns, and crafting solutions that can have a long-term impact. The initial phase might see them working on-ground, understanding societal issues firsthand, and interacting with communities. This direct exposure is crucial as it provides them with real-world insights and experiences. Another field where 6/2 profiles can make a mark is in non-profit organizations and social work. Their life trajectory, which moves from exploration to reflection to leadership, aligns well with the dynamics of social work. In the initial phase of their lives, they might be drawn to roles that expose them to diverse learning environments.
What happens after age 30 is that 30 to 50 you go “on the roof”, which means that you become isolated from the world in a way. You don’t care to be out with people, you don’t care for anything else. You go through from becoming a participant to an objective observer of these experiences and start learning and embodying these lessons.
In their earlier experimental phase, they might hop between different departments or roles, understanding the dynamics of a business environment. Whether it’s sales, marketing, HR, or finance, their varied experiences provide a solid foundation for future leadership roles. Given this three-phased journey, career choices for a 6/2 profile need to be flexible, allowing growth, introspection, and eventual leadership. They thrive in environments that respect their need for solitude while also valuing their insights and leadership potential. For the first thirty years or so, those with a 6/2 profile often experiment with various career paths, gathering experiences and knowledge. This phase is about trial and error, figuring out what resonates with their core values and what doesn’t.
By now, you’ve gained enough wisdom and experience to guide others, sharing the insights you’ve gleaned from your journey. The first phase (up to approximately age 30) is often characterized by a period of trial and error. As a 6/2 Generator, you may find yourself exploring different paths and possibilities during this time, gaining valuable life experience. Of course, it’s well understood that the source of true wisdom stems from lived experience.
2 Manifestor Profile in Human Design
Meanwhile, the 2nd line, the hermit, craves solitude and introspection. They’re not the ones to actively seek out relationships, but instead, they’re called out by others, drawn to their inherent knowledge and wisdom. The balance between the public and private persona creates a delicate dance in relationships. The 6/2 profile in the Human Design system is a blend of unique energies, representing both a role model (6th line) and the hermit (2nd line). This duality creates a distinct pattern in how individuals with this profile approach and experience relationships.
Life Purpose and Career Choices for the 6/2 Profile
For example, if you have emotional authority, it’s essential to give yourself time to experience your full emotional wave before making significant decisions. If your authority is splenic, your intuition will give you in-the-moment guidance that you can trust. This strategy may sometimes feel uncomfortable or unnecessary, but it is a vital aspect of living as a 6/2 Manifestor. By practicing and mastering this strategy, you can bring more ease and flow into your life and relationships.

In the early stages of a 6/2 Manifestor’s life, there is a focus on exploring, experiencing, and learning from life’s trials and errors. As a 6/2 Manifestor, you may find that this period is filled with adventure and experimentation, as you’re driven to initiate and create changes based on your interests and passions. The second line in your profile signifies a natural talent or calling. You have an innate skill that might pull people toward you, seeking your expertise.
The Importance of Authority for a 6/2 Manifestor
You may choose to live in the flow of these characteristics instead of resisting them. Each one of us fits this costume perfectly in the way we behave and live out our lives. Ra often said that that if Line 6 would teach everything they knew, they would never make any money.
These are people who have an abundance of knowledge, often through traditional knowledge acquisition and also observation. They can’t necessarily articulate their gifts or explain their process, yet they can perfectly point out the ways and paths and ways for others to transform yet for themselves. They strive for this perfection and ultimately what happens is that leads to an action and fear. They get to immerse themselves in the world of knowledge, contribute significantly to it, and then guide the next generation, making a lasting impact in their chosen field. The middle phase, marked by introspection, is when they might dive deep into a particular area of interest. It could be scientific research, anthropological studies, literary analyses, or any other academic pursuit.

They are often sought after for advice and guidance, and they provide practical wisdom that helps others navigate their own paths. Despite their need for solitude, individuals with a 6/2 Profile can form deep and meaningful connections. They are able to provide a unique blend of introspective wisdom and practical advice, which makes them valuable companions and guides. While the Hermit energy guides their need for solitude, the 6th Line’s Role Model energy influences how they interact with the world. They carry a sense of authority and people tend to turn to them for guidance or advice. So there’s a lot of value and creativity here, but at the same time, it doesn’t look pretty all the time, especially when you’re on the lower end of it.
When considering compatibility for a 6/2 profile, it’s essential to look beyond just profile types. While certain profiles might have a natural resonance with the 6/2 energy, the key lies in understanding, mutual growth, and respect. Relationships during this time are experimental, with the individual learning through experiences, both pleasant and painful. It’s a time of exploration, making sense of what they want from a partner and relationship.
The Hermit’s Call: Respecting the Need for Solitude
Their careers, in turn, become less about the job and more about the profound impact they can have on the lives of others. The strategy of informing remains a constant companion throughout your journey, helping to reduce resistance and foster understanding. Similarly, recognizing and trusting your inner authority helps you navigate life with authenticity and alignment.

Don’t hesitate to share your wisdom, but also remember to listen and learn from others. As a 6/2 Generator, your eventual role as a Role Model is a significant aspect of your design. This typically comes into full play during your third life phase, after about 50 years of age. During this period, you’ve gained enough experience and wisdom to serve as a guide for others. A distinct characteristic of being a 6/2 Generator is going through three distinct life phases, each with its unique challenges and learning experiences. Clients who embrace the "Design a Life You Love" philosophy experience a newfound sense of peace in their lives, enjoying contentment and ease across all facets of their lives.
Of course, there’s no telling a Manifestor, and a 6/2 needs to learn from personal experience. Ra Uru Hu described this second phase using a house analogy of being ‘on the roof’. According to the Human Design system, this is a transformative phase during which the 6/2 evolves from the third Martyr line to the line of the Role Model personality. Now let’s take a closer look at each line, and the 6/2 profile in context of your energy type.
It’s important for them to remember that their wisdom is valuable and can be a source of support and guidance for many. As a 6/2 Generator and someone with a defined sacral center, you are here to perfect a process and become a role model in it through your 6/2 journey. Let you take a moment to reflect on your childhood, a time when you had someone to look up to, someone who inspired and captivated you.
As the 2 is also contained in the 6/2 profile, it carries within the search for a calling. The dilemma for the 6/2 profile is that it follows the wrong calling in the first 30 years of trial and error and stays stuck in there for quite a while. Depending on the genetic type, the consequence then is frustration, bitterness, anger, or disappointment — a simple example studies. Often these people reach their second phase of life and don’t want to have anything to do anymore with their previously chosen occupation.
The sixth line of the 6/2 profile presents an additional layer—a yearning to be seen, acknowledged, and revered for one's wisdom and insights. This desire to shine makes the Role Model Hermit an exceptional profile, as it pushes you not only to work on yourself but also to share your acquired wisdom with the world. The 2nd Line lives in its naturalness and is not at all interested in new information about itself or the world around it, it is literally closed to any new knowledge. Therefore, the problems of the 2nd Body Line can only be seen from the outside.
I’ll just go run into the sunroom in my house and I’ll just sit over there by myself because I need that alone time. You would be doing yourself a disservice if you don’t take this time for yourself because you absolutely need it. Being out in the nature is another thing that’s going to help you a lot. Role Model Hermits 6/2s have a tendency to act like Heretic Investigators 5/1s.
They may exhibit a detached quality, as if they are holding back their abilities. But part of their role is to allow their innate talents to be called forth and utilized to their fullest potential. Understanding the interplay of these various elements in their Design can provide a more nuanced and personalized understanding of a 6/2 Profile individual. This 70+ page Human Design report will be your personalized compass for navigating life’s twists and turns, illuminating your strengths, and helping you align with your divine purpose. As a 6/2 Reflector, you are here to reflect and create awareness of the status quo.

MIAMI — A COVID-19 outbreak took place on a South Florida-based cruise ship for the third time this week, as the number of coronavirus cases in Florida hit its highest level since the start of the pandemic. One passenger posted a video on Facebook showing the view from her room's window Thursday with the cruise ship bobbing up and down and creaking in the throes of high waves.

Carnival cruise ship passenger falls overboard, found alive hours later
The sad anniversary comes as the cruise industry, shut down in much of the world for months because of the coronavirus pandemic, is once again in the spotlight because of COVID-19 outbreaks that threaten passenger safety. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control last month warned people across-the-board not to go on cruises, regardless of their vaccination status, because of the risks of infection. Fire on the port-side exhaust funnel of another Florida-based cruise ship in the Bahamas, the Carnival Freedom, rocked some passengers Saturday and took the ship out of commission for repairs, the cruise line said. The passenger — who was showing signs of hypothermia, shock and dehydration — told rescuers he wasn’t sure how he’d fallen overboard but confirmed he’d been on the cruise ship.

"It is likely the sailing will be extended until the port [of Jacksonville] reopens after the storm has passed," the line said.
By midday port officials were raising a yellow caution flag reporting gusts over 40 knots. The cruise line said a technical team determined the ship sustained enough damage that it will need repairs before it can be returned to scheduled cruises. The funnel was stabilized, passengers were expected to be returned to Port Canaveral, and the ship will set off to Freeport for repairs, it said. One person died and four others were injured after a "rogue wave" hit the Viking Polaris cruise ship while it was sailing toward Ushuaia, Argentina, on Tuesday night, officials said. "The ship and crew immediately reported the incident to local authorities and began searching for the guest. Thankfully, the guest was successfully recovered and was brought on board," the cruise line told Business Insider.

Passengers on Disney Wish posted video on Twitter of cheers erupting through the ship when they were told they might be getting an extra day or two at sea. Carnival Paradise "is now scheduled to depart from Cozumel on Wednesday," Carnival said in the statement. "The ship will then begin heading back to Tampa, but remaining a safe distance from the storm as the company determines when Carnival Paradise can return to the Port of Tampa after the U.S. Coast Guard assesses conditions." Instead, the ships are spending extra time at sea and at cruise destinations in the Caribbean and the Bahamas. The previous single-day highest number of cases was in last August, during the height of the delta variant wave in Florida, when 27,802 cases were reported.

Strong winds in the port of Zeebrugge, Belgium on Saturday after being cited as the cause of an accident that saw Norwegian Cruise Line’s 143,535 gross ton cruise ship Norwegian Prima pushed away from the pier and drifting into the harbor. Two gangways provided by the port were dragged from the pier into the harbor. On Monday, the Juneau Empire reported the ship sustained damage after divers inspected it and it had to return to Seattle for repairs, according to Petty Officer 1st Class Nate Littlejohn, a Coast Guard spokesperson. The cruise ship company said in a statement to Sky News that the captain "immediately initiated all necessary rescue measures in close coordination with the local authorities."

The ship's crew immediately launched a search for Tollemache and the United States Coast Guard was ultimately called in to help. The Coast Guard called off its search after crew scoured the waters for two days. According to current projections, Ian could be a very powerful Category 4 hurricane with sustained winds of 155 miles per hour as it hits the west coast of Florida Wednesday.
The overboard woman was found to be in "good health" after the fall, the Coast Guard said. A rescue expert told Business Insider her survival was "nothing short of miraculous." Such voyage extensions due to hurricanes and other weather events are relatively rare in the cruise world, though they do happen from time to time.
Carnival said the weather conditions caused several cruises to cancel their docking in the Grand Cayman on Wednesday. The missing 28-year-old man, who hasn’t been identified, was with his sister at the Carnival Valor’s bar at 11 p.m. Wednesday when he took a bathroom break and never came back, the outlet reported.
Across the fleet, there are thorough operational protocols in place and we always prioritize the safety of those onboard,” HX said. The ship, traveling under its own power, is currently sailing to Bremerhaven, Germany, for disembarkation, HX said in an updated statement Friday. "The situation is stable, the ship has propulsion and they are able to navigate the ship manually via emergency systems," the Danish Joint Rescue Coordination Centre said in a statement Friday local time. None of the 266 passengers or 131 crew members were seriously injured, HX said.
The Coast Guard searched over 5,171 square miles and more than 60 hours, but crews could not find Peale Jr. The family of 35-year-old Australian cruise passenger Warwick Tollemache told Nine News he was a "kind, beautiful, and gentle soul who was adored by everyone who knew him." But at least 10 people fell off major cruise line ships so far this year, turning fun-in-the-sun vacations into disaster situations — and only two survived the fall into the ocean.
“All guests currently onboard will disembark in Seattle as originally planned,” the spokesperson said. “On June 25, 2022 while transiting to Hubbard Glacier in Alaska, Norwegian Sun made contact with a growler,” a Norwegian Cruise spokesperson told The Post. The ship, the Norwegian Sun, smacked into the minor iceberg, also known as a growler, on Saturday and was rerouted to Juneau for inspection. Paramedics evaluated and bandaged six others who declined transportation to the hospital, said Honolulu Emergency Medical Services spokesperson Shayne Enright. The driver had dropped off customers at Pier 2 when bystanders noticed the bus was moving forward, police said.
The extended sailings are just the latest in a string of disruptions to cruises this week caused by Hurricane Ian. More than a dozen cruise ships operating in the Caribbean and the Bahamas have had to switch course in recent days to steer clear of the storm as it barreled toward Florida. In many cases, the ships dropped or switched ports as they moved to calmer waters. Researchers at Bowling Green State University found between 2000 and 2019, there were 623 reported deaths on cruise ships, and 89% of those deaths were passengers while 11% of those were crew members. The 981-foot cruise ship, which has 20 passenger decks above the waterline and a large sail area, arrived in the Belgian port as its last port call on a 10-day cruise from Iceland through Scandinavia and ending in England. When she docked Saturday morning, wind speeds were being reported at between 6 and 18 knots.
Despite these cases, overboard incidents are very rare, according to a cruise line trade association
One passenger was with six of her relatives for a family vacation that was postponed three years due to the COVID pandemic. A Norwegian Cruise Line ship on the way to an Alaskan glacier hit an iceberg over the weekend and is being turned around due to damage. Ross Klein, a cruise industry expert and a professor at Memorial University of Newfoundland in Canada, said that this kind of incident is uncommon. "It's not unheard of, but it certainly isn't something that happens with any frequency at all," he said. From 2009 to 2019, the number of "operational incidents" declined by 41% and the rate of "man overboard incidents" declined by nearly 35%, while the industry's total capacity grew by 68%, CLIA said.
Holland America crew members die during "incident" on cruise ship
Passengers who sustained injuries were taken to a medical facility nearby, a spokesperson for the cruise line told USA TODAY in an emailed statement. "We have dispatched our CARE Team to Panama City to offer additional support to these guests," the spokesperson said. HONOLULU — One person died and multiple people were injured when a shuttle bus collided with pedestrians and concrete barriers at a Honolulu cruise ship terminal, authorities said Friday. A Carnival spokesperson said that the cruise line determined Hill "jumped" from the ship "after an exhaustive on-board search and a review of security camera video." The voyages that are being extended include this week's four-night sailings of Carnival Cruise Line's 2,052-passenger Carnival Paradise and 2,052-passenger Carnival Elation out of Port Tampa Bay and JAXPort, respectively. Both of the sailings, which began on Sunday and had been scheduled to end Thursday morning, are now morphing into cruises that will last at least five nights.

Also being extended are sailings out of Port Canaveral operated by Royal Caribbean's 3,344-passenger Mariner of the Seas, Norwegian Cruise Line's 3,967-passenger Norwegian Getaway and MSC Cruises' 3,502-passenger MSC Divina. "All of us at Holland America Line are deeply saddened by this incident and our thoughts and prayers are with our team members' families at this difficult time," the statement said. "Our team are working to arrange onward travel back home for guests onboard," the statement added. “Following ongoing safety checks and technical assessments, given the weather conditions, we decided to amend the planned sailing route.
Thousands more flights canceled on Christmas Day, putting a damper on holiday travel
More common, Klein said, is for passengers to fall over the side of the gangway, though he noted that does not happen often, either. "From a passenger perspective, one should always be using caution no matter where they are on a cruise ship or off," Klein said. A passenger on an MSC Cruises ship was rescued in 2009 after falling into the water following a gangway collapse, and more than a dozen people were killed in a similar incident on a gangway leading to Cunard Line's Queen Mary 2 in 2003. According to a report from the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), there were 212 overboard incidents from 2009 to 2019, and only 48 — or 28.2% — of those who fell overboard were successfully rescued. College student Sigmund Ropich of Texas was vacationing with his friends on Royal Caribbean's Wonder of the Seas, the largest cruise ship in the world in August, his sister Savannah Ropich told Business Insider. One witness told Business Insider that passengers lined up on their balconies and quickly banded together to try and guide the rescue boat as it scanned the water for signs of the woman.

Carnival Magic was involved in an incident while in Ocho Rios, Jamaica on Tuesday morning, Feb. 6 when strong winds and swells caused the pier fender to collapse under pressure, and the ship made contact with the pier. The sibling didn’t report her brother gone until noon the next day, prompting the Cozumel, Mexico-bound ship to retrace its sailing path toward New Orleans Thursday, Carnival spokesperson Matt Lupoli told the outlet. During the pandemic, four crew members were killed by non-coronavirus causes on cruise ships with workers stranded onboard. For Concordia survivor Georgia Ananias, the COVID-19 infections are just the latest evidence that passenger safety still isn’t a top priority for the cruise ship industry. Passengers aboard the Concordia were largely left on their own to find life jackets and a functioning lifeboat after the captain steered the ship close too shore in a stunt. He then delayed an evacuation order until it was too late, with lifeboats unable to lower because the ship was listing too heavily.
Ortelli was later on hand when, in September 2013, the 115,000-ton, 1,000-foot long cruise ship was righted vertical off its seabed graveyard in an extraordinary feat of engineering. GIGLIO, Italy — Ten years have passed since the Costa Concordia cruise ship slammed into a reef and capsized off the Tuscan island of Giglio. Cunard Line took delivery today, April 19, from Fincantieri on its first new cruise ship built for the storied brand in 14 years. She told the newspaper that Norwegian told her Monday the rest of the trip was canceled and the ship would arrive in Seattle on Thursday.

Employees of Nomi Health check in a long line of people for COVID-19 tests on Tuesday in North Miami, Fla. Because of a lack of navigational abilities, the ship had to be steered manually from the engine room, per the news agency. “It was a night that, in addition to being a tragedy, had a beautiful side because the response of the people was a spontaneous gesture that was appreciated around the world,” Ortelli said.
The Carnival Magic, which departed from Florida on Sunday, was docked in Ocho Rios in Jamaica when high winds caused the pier fender to collapse, hitting the ship’s side. A Japanese consortium made up of coastal shipping company Imoto Lines and marine software company Marindows is launching a government-backed effort to develop a next-generation containership. Plans call not only for the vessel to address decarbonization with the ability to operate emissions-free, but also to address the emerging challenges due to the lack of seafarers in Japan.
Norwegian Encore is currently on a 21-day Panama Canal cruise from Seattle to Miami. According to CLIA, cruise lines have maintained an exceptional safety record and cruising is one of the safest forms of travel. "Even one incident is one too many," CLIA told Business Insider, explaining, "The vast majority of cases are either reckless behavior or some form of intentional act. People don't just inadvertently fall over the side of a ship." California resident Kenneth Schwalbe, 59, was traveling on the Emerald Princess ship when he went overboard on August 11 about eight miles off the coast of Hilo, Hawaii. The Coast Guard called off its search for Hill when he wasn't found after covering more than 1,347 square miles.
Ashley Peterson, a passenger on the ship, tweeted a photo of a Dec. 22 letter from the ship's captain apologizing for being unable to make stops in Aruba and Bonaire. The letter said passengers would get $100 per room in onboard credit, as well refunds for planned excursions. Two civilian support vessels are aiding the ship in its journey to port, Danish rescue authorities said. The ship was in the North Sea at the time, in an area hit by a storm late Thursday with hurricane-force gusts forecast to continue Friday, the Danish Meteorological Institute said according to Reuters.
The dinner plates that flew off the tables when the rocks first gashed the hull. The final mad scramble to evacuate the listing liner and then the extraordinary generosity of Giglio islanders who offered shoes, sweatshirts and shelter until the sun rose and passengers were ferried to the mainland. The Viking Polaris’ next departure, the Antarctic Explorer cruise scheduled for Dec. 5-17, was canceled due to the incident. Suzie Gooding, who was on the ship when the incident happened, recalled feeling like they'd hit an iceberg, according to NBC affiliate WRAL of Raleigh, North Carolina. Passengers scheduled for those late-March cruises are being offered full refunds and credit that can be used for a future cruise, it said.
The AmaWaterways team created fantastic camaraderie on our cruise, encouraging close interaction with staff members and other guests. Guests come together to share stories at mealtimes and get to know each other better on shore excursions. We had fun with new friends in the evenings, enjoying the entertainment and dancing the night away in the Main Lounge and at parties on the sun deck. This site focuses on small-format cruises and ship-within-a-ship concepts on large cruise ships, including special cruise experiences you can enjoy during your next vacation. Another fun perk of a fall river cruise in the South of France was the breathtaking autumn colors in the vineyards. We didn’t see grapes on the vines because the workers harvested them by October.

The spice blend includes rosemary, thyme, basil, marjoram, parsley, tarragon, and other spices. One of the things to know about river cruising is that the river's water levels affect whether or not you can sail. Sometimes the water can be too high, making sailing impossible because the ship cannot pass under the low-clearance bridges along the route.

A total of 19 AmaWaterways ships have earned the Green Award certification so far, starting with the AmaKristina. In addition, luggage tags are made from 100% recycled plastic bottle material and are now delivered to guest staterooms on board ships in Europe, reducing the line’s carbon footprint. The usage of the innovative myAmaCruise app and electronic travel documents has also virtually eliminated paper consumption both pre-cruise and on board. Surrounded by lush vineyards, idyllic Riquewihr is one of the most beautiful towns in France.
Sailing on the Rhone River Aboard AmaKristina
But we saw how beautiful the fall colors can be when you look out on the expanse of vineyards that this cruise brings you to in beautiful French port cities. The Colors of Provence river cruise traveled 600 feet during the journey, including 12 locks. We mostly sailed during the evening and overnight on the ship, but there was an afternoon or two we cruised. You see some houses along the waterfront, and it’s so pretty to see the landscape as you pull into the next port. Amsterdam is home to 165 canals, and a scenic canal cruise along these tree-lined waterways is a fantastic way to see the city’s centuries-old historical center and beautiful attractions.
During our October cruise, we sailed past hillside vineyards, castles, and gorgeous foliage turning from green to yellow. AmaLucia offers an environment of casual luxury, along with an incredibly welcoming staff. It was fantastic to spend time relaxing on board and enjoying the ship’s amenities, exceptional cuisine, personalized service, and vibrant onboard community. We did see plenty of souvenirs available with lavender motifs and scents, though!
There’s so much to see and do along this route, as I was able to experience recently with AmaWaterways. The award-winning, family owned and operated cruise line is celebrating its 20th anniversary and offers highly immersive river cruises on many of the world’s most scenic waterways, including the Rhine. But what distinguishes AmaWaterways from the seemingly endless array of Rhine River cruises is its wellness program and active excursions. It’s no secret that river-cruise passengers tend to be older, but this company is a go-to for those who like to start the day with vigorous bike rides and cap it off with a vineyard-side wine tasting.

The Chef’s Table is a reservation-only gourmet culinary experience featuring an exquisite multi-course tasting menu paired with complimentary wines. The Main Restaurant serves three mouthwatering meals daily, with menus featuring fresh, locally-sourced ingredients and regional cuisine, including exceptional meats and seafood. Wines, beer, and soft drinks are complimentary with meals, and a tapas menu is available in the lounge. Pages from fairytales come to life as you find inspiration along the fabled, castle-laden Rhine and its breathtaking tributary, the Moselle, with fascinating scenery of Europe’s steepest vineyards lining its shores.
There’s so much to see and do in Amsterdam, so plan to spend several days here before or after your cruise. During our extended time in Amsterdam, we took a fabulous canal tour and visited the Van Gogh Museum, the Rijksmuseum, and the Floriade Expo, a world-renowned horticultural exhibition occurring once each decade. Our Rhine, Main & Moselle river journeys are best reserved with optional land packages before or after your sailing, accompanied by our wonderful Cruise Managers. Stay at recognized four and five-star hotels, plus enjoy convenient transfers between your hotel and ship, as well as a range of included amenities and excursions.

Drink in the beauty, history and flavor of the Rhine and Moselle river valleys’ iconic vineyards. Begin your journey with a gentle ride through Amsterdam’s legendary canals, and whet your palate for the wines ahead by tasting Kolsch beer. As for the vineyards, you’ll soar above them by gondola or hike among the grapes in Rüdesheim. Whatever you choose to do ashore, the stories you’re told and flavors that grace your palate will surely transform you. From Prague, the “City of Spires,” to the heartland of Germany along the Rhine and Main rivers and to cosmopolitan Amsterdam, you’ll get an up-close look at the magnificent castles, medieval towns and forever-inspiring cities.
This luxury of choice is particularly appealing for those traveling with family members or a group of people who may have different interests and activity levels. Guests can explore at their own speed, with most walking tours available at gentle, regular, and active paces. The tour options were excellent, and I often wished I could clone myself so I could experience multiple tours offered simultaneously.
Cruise Critic is not a booking agent and does not charge any service fees to users of our site. When you book with one of our partners, please be sure to check their site for a full disclosure of all applicable fees as required by the U.S. Embark on an unforgettable Rhine River cruise between picturesque Amsterdam, Netherlands and dynamic Basel, Switzerland. Along the way, you will explore charming villages and historic cities such as Cologne, Rüdesheim and Heidelberg. Cruise through the UNESCO-designated Rhine Gorge adorned with 40 castles and marvel at the breathtaking beauty of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Strasbourg.
If there is a challenge regarding the river levels, AmaWaterways will do everything possible to maintain the schedule and all the excursions guests expect to go on. The rate of ascent or descent (depending on the direction your cruise is traveling) is approximately one foot per minute. The biggest lock we experienced during the Colors of Provence river cruise dropped us 75 feet (12m). Dan and I enjoyed our own little happy hour on the ship once or twice during the cruise, complete with French groceries we bought while in port – cheese and bread included. An AmaKristina Provence river cruise review is incomplete without a mention of what it’s like to sail on the Rhône River. Excursion options range from food market tours to city walking tours, moderate hikes, wine tastings, and bike tours.
Straight out of a fairytale, Riquewihr is a medieval French village said to have inspired animators creating Belle’s hometown in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. This storybook village is filled with postcard-perfect half-timbered houses, cobblestone streets, charming shops and cafés, and structures dating back to the 13th century. Riquewihr is known for producing outstanding wines, such as its exceptional riesling. We enjoyed relaxing at a delightful outdoor café and sampling local treats here.
The AmaLucia staff did an excellent job dealing with food allergies, and they surprised their guests with unannounced treats like gelato parties and other delights during our cruise. AmaWaterways is known for delivering memorable dining experiences, and it is a member of La Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, one of the world’s most prestigious invitation-only culinary organizations. I’m out of breath and panting, somewhere near Heidelberg, a historic German city located near the foothills of the Odenwald. My cycling group and I are pedaling toward Schwetzingen Palace, renowned for its Versailles-like gardens, about six miles away from our ship docked along the Rhine. As I pause in the middle of a cornfield, all my group mates are but a glimmer of silver hair in the distance.
During previous trips in recent years, we were affected by a Lufthansa airline strike before our barge cruise with European Waterways and again for our Bordeaux summer river cruise with Viking. But for a truly French experience in the culinary sense, we recommend booking some restaurant experiences on your own in addition to the excursions offered. You will not feel immersed in French cuisine when you sail on this cruise, like during a land trip to Provence.

The change included more logistics and coordination than most guests probably realized. As such, the guests boarded buses to reach the boat from Tournon after our morning tours; the ship was further along the Rhone River after our excursions than where we disembarked that morning. As soon as the guests disembarked AmaKristina in Tournon, the ship sailed away to make it to the next location. This smart move was the captain’s solution to deal with the strike and stay on course for our Colors of Provence itinerary.
Rhone River Cruise Review: AmaWaterways Colors of Provence
Most AmaWaterways river cruise ships have a professionally trained Wellness Host on board who leads complimentary yoga, Zumba, and other fitness activities throughout the journey. Active shore excursions, including guided bike tours and hikes, are also offered in ports of call. Guests who prefer riding in their spare time rather than taking a biking excursion can use AmaLucia’s complimentary bicycles. AmaKristina was the first river cruise ship in the industry to receive the prestigious Green Award, which recognizes ships in Europe for their quality, safety and environmental performance.
AmaWaterways Colors of Provence Cruise FAQs
Other times, the river’s water levels may be too low to sail because there is insufficient water beneath the boat and the riverbed. The best thing to do is extend your river cruise for time on land with a pre or post-cruise extension. Dan and I did this, and it’s when we really immersed ourselves in French cuisine. While 180M tourists in France are French people discovering their own culture (because the different areas of France vastly vary from one another), most of the fellow cruisers onboard AmaKristina were American and British.
CRUISE FROM : Amsterdam to Basel
After touring the castle, we had plenty of time on our own to explore the Old City with its countless shops and boutiques, stroll along the waterfront, and relax at an outdoor café while sampling German beers. You can sign up for a cruise sailing from Lyon to Avignon, north to south, or select the opposite direction from Avignon to Lyon, south to north. The only difference between them is the river cruise ship's direction and the order of the towns you visit; the itinerary and towns you stop at are the same. When choosing your river cruise ship, consider the amenities that would make your vacation more pleasurable. Europe’s summers are often hot, so spending time in the pool is appealing. AmaLucia’s sun deck features a lovely outdoor pool, and I was thrilled to kick back and cool down there during our cruise in July.
Cruise through the Netherlands, Germany, France and Switzerland from Basel to Amsterdam, visiting iconic landmarks and enjoying the majestic landscapes along the Rhine River. Dramatic rivers yielding to fairytale towns and iconic cities all come alive as you discover four countries along the storied Rhine and Moselle. Take in the architecture and artistry of castles such as Brussels’ Gaasbeek and Ghent’s Castle of the Counts before gliding past more than 40 fairytale castles in the Rhine Gorge on one immersive sailing! Enjoy your entire 14-night Grand River Cruise on board the same beautiful ship as you experience the best of Holland, Belgium, and the Rhine River.
Europe’s Rivers & Castles
It also provides biodegradable Tetra Pak water containers for excursions. Additionally, luggage tags are made from 100 percent recycled plastic bottle material while the myAmaCruise app has virtually eliminated paper. Because of this, the guests hardly noticed an impending strike that could have very much affected the cruise. Luckily, AmaWaterways knew a lock workers strike would affect the fifth day of our cruise. Because they knew this beforehand, the captain, Cruise Director, and crew planned accordingly. The best is if you can find a French cheesemonger and ask about the cheeses, then decide what you want to purchase.
The alternative is finding the herbs at specialty upscale spice towns in old town centers or in souvenir shops that sell a variety of keepsakes and trinkets. The highlight is the small towns and cities you visit in Provence, not far from the Rhone River, not necessarily the countryside. If you love science, you’ll be intrigued to know that the cruise passes three nuclear power plants.
While AmaWaterways offers some cheese onboard, we found it wasn’t as authentic as the cheese you can get on land. Our Colors of Provence cruise with AmaWaterways was a vacation for the books! Many itineraries travel between Amsterdam and Basel in Switzerland, and some incorporate other rivers as well. Standing on AmaLucia’s sun deck, I was mesmerized by the awe-inspiring scenery complete with picturesque towns, hillside vineyards, and 30 stunning castles and fortresses lining the river. Our knowledgeable cruise manager provided expert commentary on the Upper Middle Rhine Valley’s castles, the area’s stories and legends, the massive Loreley Rock, and the iconic statue that bears the siren’s name.
But don’t be surprised if you encounter a lot of French tourists while you’re in ports during a Provence river cruise. The Rhone River is around 500 miles, but you only sail a portion of it during this AmaWaterways 7-night river cruise. Mile marker “0” (zero) on the Rhone River is at the Confluences in Lyon, which you sail past during the cruise. Some of the best moments of my AmaWaterways river cruise were spent on our ship, simply relaxing and enjoying the breathtaking scenery. It’s rare to have this kind of pleasurable downtime, and our floating luxury hotel provided front-row seats for the Rhine’s spectacular show.
Savor the storybook atmosphere of some of Europe’s most charming towns and along the way, get swept up in the many treasures just waiting to be discovered along the Rhine and Main rivers. While operating sustainable, environmentally friendly ships is fundamental to AmaWaterways, both Zambezi Queen and AmaMagna go above and beyond with eco-friendly features. Zambezi Queen, which explores the Chobe River in Africa, uses a five-stage water purification plant, employing river water in the showers and tap aboard. The ship’s water jet propulsion system replaces a conventional system, ensuring there is no damage to the riverbed. Throughout the night, the ship operates on battery power and only the low-emission generators run throughout the day. If you want to be sure you’ll see lavender fields during a summer vacation in Provence, extend your cruise with a land trip before or after the journey to venture into the countryside.
AmaWaterways Hit Record Sales in January - TravelAge West
Since then, another 19 river cruise ships in AmaWaterways’ European fleet have earned the Green Award certification. All ships are able to connect to shoreside electric power, which further reduces fuel consumption and noise levels while in port. AmaWaterways has lessened unnecessary food waste from large-scale buffets by serving a la carte lunches on board European ships. Our sailing offered a wealth of opportunities to be immersed in the history, culture, and landscapes of Europe. All 21 enriching excursions offered on our AmaLucia voyage were included in the cruise fare, and two to four tours were available in each port of call.
The sun deck offers loungers in both sun and shade, and a large seating area at the bow is equipped with comfortable couches, tables, and chairs perfect for taking in the panoramic scenic views. Toward the end of my trip, I sat on a stoop enjoying a mango gelato after a long walking tour of Riquewihr, a fairy-tale medieval French town. I had sweated my way down the Rhine for the past week, but it was exactly the kind of vacation I needed. For someone like me, whose mind is constantly racing with worries, staying active allowed me to be more present and connected—even when I was being shown up by people twice my age. Those moments in a new destination, when the responsibilities dissipate, make travel—and the sweat—so rewarding.
Another unexpected Rhone River challenge had nothing to do with water levels; it had to do with the locks being affected by a strike! During the cruise, the captain smartly adjusted our day's schedule in Tournon to avoid the lock workers' strike. Baguettes are less than €1 per piece at any market or supermarket you visit in France. Our favorite grocery shop in France is Carrefour; most any sizable French city has one. The next afternoon, we enjoyed a beautiful sail through the Rhone River valley after our morning in Vienne.
That’s generally true of most cruises, whose cuisine needs to cater to a broad audience. The sun was shining, and the skies were blue as we pulled away from the port, turned away from the attractive Pont d’Universite bridge, and sailed south. The dining room on the ship is very nice, with booth seating and tables. The common spaces, including the lounge areas and a small library and bar, are great places to relax after a day in port or to enjoy entertainment like listening to the piano player. You'll sail to and visit lovely French cities and villages on this itinerary, including Lyon, Beaujolais, Vienne, Tournon and Hermitage, Avignon, and Arles. AmaLucia’s sun deck is another great place to watch the Rhine’s ever-changing landscapes.
